Alyson Slater is the Director of Regional Network and Sustainable Development at the GRI. She brings over 15 years of experience in both corporate social responsibility and international development. Before returning to the GRI in 2014 she spent five years in Asia on various assignments, including with CSR Asia on the role of business in development and poverty alleviation and at the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) in Bangkok she worked with policymakers from 85 developing countries to improve access to formal financial services for the poor. Previous to joining AFI, she worked as a consultant providing services to companies on corporate responsibility issues ranging from climate change to human rights.
She was the Director of Strategy and Communications at the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) from 2001 to 2007 where she helped build a global network of companies, investors, non-profits, and others, and engaged them in the development of the sustainability reporting framework and associated support services. Prior to joining GRI she spent a year at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in Geneva. She received her Master's Degree in Resource Management and Environmental Studies from the University of British Columbia, and an honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from McGill University, both in Canada.
