Morocco

The ACWA Power CSR project began implementation in 2016 in three communes of the Tanger-Tetouan region of North Morocco. About 62 % of households in the project area live below the national poverty line and 15 % are at risk. The level of illiteracy is high particularly among women and access to extension services is lacking. About 90 % of the households are involved in agriculture, and use an agro-silvo-pastoral production system, but productivity is low.

The objective of the project is to increase incomes and improve livelihoods of communities, in particular by supporting women. The project intends to support women through the promotion of handicraft and livestock related activities and the creation of women-only and mixed cooperatives. The project will organize trainings in handicraft to develop women’s skills and improve their employability as well as encourage income-generating activities close to their home. For families who own cows, the project will organize trainings in livestock management and milk production and will support the establishment of milk collection centers and linkages with buyers.
