Domestic Biogas Programme
Disseminate Domestic Biogas Digesters as a Local and Dustainable Source of Energy

The Story
In rural Indonesia, cooking traditionally meant hours of collecting firewood or buying costly kerosene and LPG. The smoke-filled kitchens damaged health, and women bore the brunt of the work. The Indonesia Domestic Biogas Programme set out to change that. By installing thousands of household biogas digesters, families now cook with clean, renewable energy. Women are saving over an hour every day, homes are healthier, and farms are more productive with organic bio-slurry fertilizer. With WOCAN applying the W+ Standard, these invisible contributions became measurable, linking women’s empowerment directly to climate and development finance.
